
Tailwheel Refresher Syllabus
Ground Portion:
Fill out paperwork, review the handout "Taildragger Basics". 30 min
Flight Portion:
Period 1: Start up, taxi, run-up, fly to the practice area. 15 min
This period is to familiarize the client with the aircraft.
This will include airwork maneuvers to include climbs,
turns, stalls, slow flight, steep turns, slips and
emergency landings. 40 min
Return to the airport, land and shutdown. 10 min
Total 1.1 hours
Period 2: Start up, taxi, run-up, take-off. Remain in pattern
for normal take-offs and landings and emergency landings.
Introduction to wheel landings. Taxi and shut down.
Total 1 hour
Period 3: Start-up, taxi, run-up, take-off. Remain in the pattern.
Review normal take-offs and landings. Power on
wheel landings. Emergency landings. Introduction to
power off wheel landings. Taxi and shut down.
Total 1 hour
Period 4: Start-up, taxi, run-up, take-off. Remain in the pattern.
Review all. Emergency landings. Taxi and shut-down.
Total 1 hour
Total Flight Time 4 hours
The above is more a description of what maneuvers to expect than a prediction as to how long it will take.
This more than all other courses will depend on the individual and when he/she begins to feel comfortable. The client will drive how quickly the above maneuvers will be accomplished.
It is; however, a good guide as to how long to expect.
